The Scottish Dancing Class is suitable for both men and women. No dance partner is necessary and no dancing experience is required. We do easy Scottish Country & Ceilidh dances, and all the dances are “walked through”. The aims of the class are to have some fun, meet new friends and perhaps a bit of mild exercise, all in a stress-free environment.

After another successful term, last Monday brought to an end the winter/ spring session of the popular Scottish Dance Class. As is tradition, we finished our term with a ‘Bring and Share’ party. Once again, our class members and guests excelled themselves with a fantastic selection of savoury and sweet dishes, washed down with teas/ coffee and a selection of flavoured drinks. However, in addition to food, a party also needs music and dancing, and we were thoroughly entertained by the popular local musician, Johnny Duncan. John playing his accordion is truly an exceptional One-man band.
Now, what can be said about the dancing? One word…. Brilliant!! If anyone had forgotten the dance steps, they disguised it well. Not saying we were all foot perfect, but the class members are a crafty bunch, they just keep smiling and moving in time to the music. A big test of the afternoon came with the Spring Secret Santa. Yes, only at the Scottish Dance Class does Santa visit twice a year. The idea was simple; we all stand in a big circle and pass raffle tickets to the person on your right. Well on the first attempt, we had someone losing their ticket, people dropping tickets, people ending up with a handful of tickets and yes, a lot of people without a ticket. Thankfully, after a couple more attempts, we all ended up with someone else’s ticket.
Now for the thank-you’s; firstly, Johnny Duncan for the music, Jan for organising the kitchen and helping decorate the hall, Tom for videoing the proceedings and editing the final version for YouTube, and group leader Irene for not just organising the party, but for her work all during the term in managing the class and for the seasonal craft gifts she makes and gives to the class; thank you Irene. Finally, a special thank-you to all the class members - you are the stars of the show and make it all worthwhile. Hopefully, we’ll see you all back on the dance floor on 1st September.
